“Ashley Hicklin” “Never Say Never” Live on BBC Radio York

ASHLEY HICKLIN Live on BBC Radio York with Presenter Matt Seymour. Performing “Never Say Never”, taken from the debut album “Parrysland”…

Lyrics / Song-text:
Hold your love, my dear,
They sent a message, this morning, twas clear,
For I will sail the seven seas,
Fight for my country yeah it would seem,
Will you wait, for me, my dear?
And if I return, from front line duty,
There will be bells galore in spring,
And oh no dont cry, my love, for I will try,
My very best for you and I,
If you wait, for me, my dear.

Drive baby drive, take a left, take a right,
Show your true colours, Were like strangers in the night,
Lets brim the tank full, theres a roadtrip in store and,
Buckle your belt yeah, lets head for the moors,
Head for the moors, head for the moors.

Town after town, saw a clothes garment fly,
Come the end of the world, we had both become shy,
And in the bright, city lights, came a dare unto me,
So we chased round the minster going, Starkers and free,

Starkers and free, yeah ee yeah
Starkers and free!

Were sewing the seed, the never say never dream,
Who knows, this could be,
The never say never, the never say never,
Dream, Oh its a dream.

Smile baby smile, once, in a while,
Wont you opt to be an optimist on the long green mile,
For the devil is a doubt, that burns a conflict in me,
So let the rain pour down, and the confidence free,
Confidence free, confidence free!

Were sewing the seed, the never say never dream,
Who knows, this could be, The never say never,
Oh oh oh, the never say never, Well well,

Were sewing the seed, the never say never dream,
Who knows, this could be, The never say never,
Oh oh oh, the never say never,
Dream, Dream.

Secret Cowboys Round-Up

Did yall know that before The Round-Up Saloon opened on July 11, 1980, the space was a gay disco called the Magnolia T.P. co-owner Gary Miller says.

What does the T. P. stand for?

Thunderpussy, Miller laughs.

Part of that name is still tied to the Round-Up (just not the T.P. part). The charter company that owns the Round-Up is called Magnolia Disco Corporation.

Steeped in boot-scootin Lone Star tradition, the Round-Up usually overwhelms out-of-towners. Not beneath the dance floor, visiting New Yorkers witness same-sex couples free spin, promenade, two-step and line dance, and they wish Manhattan had a twangy dance hall just like it. But the genuine gay country-western experience isnt easily exported.

This weekend, the Round-Up winds up its 28th anniversary celebration with a Friday night Karaoke bash and a retro-disco beer bust on Sunday.

The 10,000 square foot space used to be the Old Warsaw Restaurant. Over the years, there have been some changes.

The patio used to be a lot bigger, Miller remembers.

Almost all of the clubs early history was lost in a fire: In 1989, the Round-Up and two adjacent tenants were victims of a six-alarm fire — ignited by an arsonist who tried to cover up a burglary after stealing computers from the Dallas Gay Alliance. A few items survived, including the brass chandeliers in the karaoke parlor.

Maintaining a classic definition of western culture is part of the Round-Ups success.

Western shirts are tucked in. And we dont wear crumpled hats — no Madonna cowboy hats either, co-owner Alan Pierce says.

Miller and Pierce have been partners for 22 years: In 2006, they were married in Montreal. Miller grew up near the mouth of Red River; and Pierce in New Mexico. And like many Round-Up patrons, Miller and Pierce both had rodeo culture in common.

Like the gay rodeo circuit, gay country-western clubs emerged out of necessity — not to rebel against tradition. Old-school C&W culture — and specifically Nashville — are still very much homophobic. K.D. Langs phenomenal success changed perceptions a little. But Miller says the secret to the Round-Ups longevity isnt really about hats, dance steps or cocktails. Its because everyone here is so friendly.

“Mama Dont Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYJVCUrjnM4

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don’t let ‘em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make ‘em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They’ll never stay home and they’re always alone
Even with someone they love

Cowboys ain’t easy to love and they’re harder to hold
And they’d rather give you a song than diamonds or gold
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded Levis

And each night begins a new day
And if you don’t understand him and he don’t die young
You’ll probably just ride away

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don’t let ‘em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make ‘em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They’ll never stay home and they’re always alone
Even with someone they love

Cowboys like smoky old pool rooms, clear mountain mornings
Little warm puppies and children, girls of the night
And them that don’t know him won’t like him and them that do

Sometimes won’t know how to take him
He ain’t wrong, he’s just different but his pride won’t let him
Do things to make you think he’s right

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don’t let ‘em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make ‘em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They’ll never stay home and they’re always alone
Even with someone they love

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don’t let ‘em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make ‘em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys

Pants on the Ground Parody – PANTS UP by Mars

January 29, 2010  //  Posted by: admin  //  Category: Elvis Belt Buckles

Pants on the Ground Parody – Pants Up by Mars

Join the movement. Spread http://MarsRaps.com

Marshall “Mars” Manning is a Hollywood bound rapper and singer who was shown with his “Golden Ticket” during the January 13th, 2010 “Atlanta Auditions” episode of American Idol.

Mars was there when General Larry Platt performed his notorious “Pants on the Ground” sensational hit and was inspired by the General to take heed to his wise words… Thus quickly writing and recording, “Pants Up”.

Mars was once a victim of SPS, “Sagging Pants Syndrome”, but since the General’s impartation, Mars has decided to “hike up” his attitude on the subject.

Pants Up
by Mars

May I have your attention please – I repeat – May I
Man Hang on man I forgot my belt. My pants just fell down!

Yall act like you’ve never seen a belt or suspenders before
just a plain white T and capris…
(Naw Mars those are shorts!)
I pity those who wanna rebuttal this Mars banter Spangled…
Lookin like a FOOL with your pants around your ankles
It’s a pity though. Diddy knows class is hard to find!
Jump on that last train to Paris ’cause your style is asinine.
I’ve been assigned to keep rhyming and further define this renown sound.
Lookin like a FOOL with your pants on the ground!

I get ‘em up
I keep my pants up off the ground
I get ‘em up now

I get ‘em up
High off the ground
I get ‘em up now – yeah

An epidemic a movement, see everybody’s buying belts
I copped 10 for my homes and 20 for myself
Rhinestone studded – Gucci red and green
I got diamonds on the buckle!
Diamonds Diamonds on my buckle!
My suspenders are poppin
My suspenders are cool
All the girls keep jockin
they chase me after school
Andre 3’s style’s nothing to consider
When you browse the selection I copped at urban outfitters
I got bright cherry red and mustard yellow dijon
Hand braided soft suede cohann.com
(Give me the green one!)
Lets go on a shopping spree
Everybody knows the best belts in life ain’t cheap!
The belt force one combo was nothing to share
So I had to go back to belt locker and cop another pair – see
This one was a gift – I call it the Taylor Swift
But everybody knows the one that steals the show’s
The Mr West

I get ‘em up
I keep my pants up off the ground
I get ‘em up now

I get ‘em up
High off the ground
I get ‘em up now – yeah

Sometimes I get on the mic and just dream at the sky
With my eyes behind shades and my pants hiked high
Barely there socks – Pant cuffs at the knees
I like to keep ‘em that way so that my ankles can breathe
This song is dedicated, premeditated, and laced with style
and made for anyone out there who sags their pangs in denial
See I’m not asking for attention – just to be thrown in the mix
and played at the top of every hour until this problem is fixed
See, this is a movement, a culture, a way to live loud
Anything is possible with pants hiked high and proud
Birds chirping dogs barking everything is grand
You KNOW that you’re in style with that high water tan
Shirt tucked in? Boy, now you’re talking edgy.
Everybody’s down with the dude that sports the wedgie
If you’re listening to this and joining in is a must
I’d like to invite you now to go ahead and sing along with us

We get ‘em up
We keep my pants up off the ground
We get ‘em up now

We get ‘em up
High off the ground
We get ‘em up now – yeah

Rising, rising, belt pulled tightly
All circulation must cease
General Larry’s words inspired me
To be all that I can be

We get ‘em up
We keep my pants up off the ground
We get ‘em up now

We get ‘em up
High off the ground
We get ‘em up now – yeah

Oh wow! I’ll take the purple, the green one, the blue one
Is this real camel hair? This one’s nice. It’ll match the shade of gold in my teeth.

Up off the ground.
Up off the ground.
Up off the ground.

DAVOS the truth. Britney Spears, Bar Rafaelli, Angelina Jolie.

January 23, 2010  //  Posted by: admin  //  Category: Country Belt Buckles

You have heard it all before. You are sick of it.

You can’t stand it any longer. You have studied the numbers. You have taken in the explanations. You think you understand. You don’t.

You do not have enough information. They are not giving you all the information .

This is bigger than you. Bigger than your house. Bigger than you neighbourhood. Bigger than your town. Bigger than your city. Bigger than the state. Bigger than the country. Bigger than the world. Bigger than the known Universe.

This is humongous. This is ginormous. Massive. Think of a figure. Not that big. Much bigger. Multiply it by 10 trillion. Multiply it by a google number. Double it. You are only halfway there.

Now sit down. Take a deep breath. Relax. You are in control. You can take a break. You are on the right track. You can switch off at any moment. You can stop this right now.

But you won’t. Because you know this is bigger than you. Bigger than your house… you know the rest. And you want to know. KNOW.

We wish you luck. You’ll need it. Buckle your seat belt. Grab your lifejacket. The ride is going to be bumpy. You will lose all the ideas you had until today. Your old concepts of life will turn into mud. Because this is new. Something you had never experienced before. Nobody has. Nobody will. The dice is set.

Don’t blame yourself. You are not a fool. It’s not your fault. It’s not our fault. It is their fault. You just believed.

But we’ve got to put it right. Now. Before it’s too late. You still have a chance. We still have a chance.

Let’s go.

By, Trace Adkins.
From the Album, Comin’ On Strong.
Record Label, Capitol/EMI Records.

Trace Adkins Gone Wild Videos are brought to you by “Country Music Gone Wild” located only at http://www.CountryMusicGoneWild.com

Lyrics,
Yeah
Alright boys follow me
Mostly in A
Stay with me now
Listen up this is philosophical

Mud grips – white-tip
Cigar stickin’ out of my face
Earnhardt racing sticker on the window
Banged up fender
4×4 – straight pipe roar
Primer and rust all over the door
Scarred up knuckles, Mack belt buckle
White t-shirt – Ain’t afraid to work
Got a “what-are-you-looking-at-pretty boy” smirk

Cold beer, hot wings
Wranglers, Skoal ring
Get just what you see
Gun rack, ball cap
Don’t take no crap
Ain’t a pretty boy-toy
I’ll rock you steady
Rough and ready

Work boots – one blue suit
Size too small – won’t wear at all
Unless somebody kicks – gets hitched
It dont fit and makes me itch
Up with sun – off on the run
Makin’ money money – cause I wanna have fun
5 o’clock whistle – off like a missile
Got a hot date, girl named Kate
Think’s I’m cool – ’cause I shoot straight
Ain’t one thing about her fake
She’s long and tall – and she goes great with

Cold beer, hot wings
Wranglers, Skoal ring
Get just what you see
Gun rack, ball cap
Don’t take no crap
Ain’t a pretty boy-toy
I’ll rock you steady
Rough and ready
Rough and ready, Baby

Ahh, Heres Johnny (Fiddle solo)
Just like that
Ah, here you go Grodo
I aint never heard nothin like that

Well you are who you are
That’s all right with me
But I am who I am
That’s all I can be
I like

Cold beer, hot wings
Wranglers, Skoal ring
Get just what you see
Gun rack, ball cap
Don’t take no crap
Ain’t a pretty boy-toy
I’ll rock you steady
Rough and ready
Rough and ready
Rough and ready, Baby
ah…me and my buddies are all alike
We all say, Hey, watch this.
That didnt turn out too good.
You okay?
(Laughs) What are you looking at?
Yeah thats a real gun in that gun rack.
No I dont have a permit for it.
Do you have a permit to ask stupid questions like that?
You can get hurt boy.
Get away from me.
