Oldest mosque in Michigan celebrates 70 years
The mosque of the American Moslem Society was established in 1937. It is the oldest mosque in the State of Michigan, and also considered one of the oldest mosques in North America. Since the mosque plays a vital role in the lives of Muslims, many Muslims immigrants established residence near and around the mosque area. As the communitys population continued to grow, so did the mosque. The mosque has evolved from a small house to a building that occupies 48,000 square feet.

Due to the communitys growth in the vicinity of the mosque during the period from 1937 to 1952, once again the need to expand the mosque arose in order to accommodate the mosques increasing number of attendees especially during Friday and holiday prayers. In 1952, the AMS along with community members decided to launch the second expansion which doubled the size of the mosque. In that expansion, the green dome of the mosque was placed on its roof. In addition, the two small minarets were added. The size of the mosque increased from few thousand to twelve thousands square feet.

Due to the central and important role the mosque plays in the Muslims daily lives, the mosque became a community center for people to perform their religious duties and also to socialize. The number of mosque attendees increased rapidly during the sixties, seventies and early eighties. During this period, there was a court ruling to allow the calling for prayers to be transmitted through outside speakers. It was the first mosque in the United States to be allowed to transmit call prayers through loudspeakers. After the previous expansions, in 1986, the community again decided to expand the mosque. The size of the building doubled from 12,000 to 24,000 square feet. In 1982, the weekend school was added to the mosque to start providing classes for the growing number of first generation Muslims in the community.

Mosque attendants expectedly continued to grow in spite of opening many local mosques in Dearborn and Detroit. The number of students in the weekend school almost doubled. By the beginning of the 90s, the building could no longer accommodate the numbers of attendants to the extent that people had to pray in the basement, offices, and even outdoor. Holiday events used to be conducted in the parking lot due to the number of attendants exceeding building capacity. There was a desire to expand the weekend school, add a library, and an activities room to hold the community events. In 2000, another expansion took place. This expansion took the building from being 24000 to 48000 square feet. The weekend school was also expanded and many facilities were added to the building. The cost for the expansion was $1,800,000. The whole facility, including the parking lot, occupies more than 100,000 square feet.

Andy Kleist Prayer Shot HQ
Here is a short video I made of the prayer shot that Eau Claire North’s Andy Kleist made against Hudson. The shot put the two teams into overtime which would end up with North prevailing! They would play a few more games, but fall in the first round at state.
The video quality is a little bit bad as it is laggy. I apologize for that, but that is just the way my computer runs. It is in HQ anyways though :p

Islam, a 7th century practice of murder, slavery, and perversion in the Middle East, has declared war against the United States Of America and other free democracies of the world. This expose from Fox News (edited for time) details the behind-the-scenes story that the Liberal-biased media refuses to cover (guess why):

Superintendent William Huyet: “But I want to emphasize that we’re not teaching Islam. We’re teaching about Islam. And I think it’s very important that our young people know about other cultures, especially those in which we find, sometimes, ourselves in conflict with.”
“‘History Alive’ has been approved by California State Board Of Education, but the America Textbook Counsel, which reviews history books for elementary and high school, says that organized Islamists have gained control of the textbook’s content and influenced those that determine the social studies curriculum. Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum agrees.”
“Abdul Rahman Alamoudi, who represents the America Muslim Council, worked with President Bill Clinton and the A.C.L.U. to write the ‘Religious Expressions In Public Schools’ guidelines that ushered in books such as ‘History Alive’. Today Alamoudi sits in jail accused by the Treasury Department as one of Al-Qaeda’s top fund-raisers in the U.S. He also donated money to Senator Hillary Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign.”
“This multi-front Islamic agenda has now gained a foot-hold in our children’s schools and is aggressively targeting our kids. As a result, the study of Islam is now an active part of many schools’s curriculums. Meanwhile, Christianity is being removed by the very same educators. Why doesn’t America put like less power in Washington, DC?
Instead, let individuals, cities, and states decide how Liberal or Conservative they want to be at their own free will….more freely…without having to worry about hundreds of millions of people to do it
If you want to let America be America, the idea is not a matter of Liberal or Conservative, it is a matter of FREEDOM at the local level for each region of America to achieve what they want, which may not be the same as another part of America.
for example, if the city of San Francisco wants Universal HEalthcare and the residents of San Francisco support it, then there can be Universal Healthcare paid for by the residents of San Francisco, for the people of San FRancisco….not forced on everyone else.
If the people of Vicksburg, Mississippi want prayer in school, then they should be able to have it…in Mississippi schools
Freedom means that individuals decide how Liberal or Conservative they personally want to be and cities and districts and states have say!
That way, if you are very Liberal, you don’t HAVE to force it on everybody in the United States. Instead, you move to a Liberal city where people think the same as you and you VOTE for your own Liberal mayor.
If you are Conservative you move to a Conservative place and vote in your own Conservative mayor.
If people are richer in the Conservative places, then that’s indicative of how America might look if America were that way….if you’d rather be less rich but have more social programs….it’s a good pay-off for you…..you would move to a Liberal city despite the lesser economy
THIS IS HOW America can be! That is real Freedom. It is that what the people want according to their will they can have not at the expense of what other people want according to their will.
So why not decentralize the power in America so where you go within the country is not run the same way by the same laws and the same regulations?
Which means Obama really belongs in Chicago where he is liked…he can put healthcare reform in Chicago and if it works out, more cities might want to do it…if not, they will be glad they didn’t
I think the Founding Fathers intended for America to be whatever Americans wanted it to be….there is no one package fits alll….
if you look at history, you will see very Liberal proposals and very Conservative ones…..America REALLY is both
At the Federal level, you would have the minimum (that nobody objects to)
1) Murder should be punishable everywhere
2) Interstate highways
3) Commerce between states
4) Defense: Army and Navy and Airforce should be organized force
This is all the minimum you need in the center
Excellent exposition.
That was how it was supposed to be. The founders tried to ensure it with the 9th and 10th amendments, which sadly have been mostly ignored. It would be incredible, a true land of opportunity where you could vote with your feet and settle in a community that best represents your interests and standards.
Instead, we get Gigantor …. big ugly clumsy central bureaucracy riddled with corruption and waste, and a one-size-fits-all regulatory nightmare.
If only more people would think seriously about this.

Muslim Call to Prayer in U.S. Schools?
Do public schools provide a place for prayer for the Islamic students in the United States?
Mark my words.. This is going to be one of the tricky ones.
The answer to your question as of right now is :
Some of them do.
It is a razor thin line that has to walked to keep the separation of church and state, AND allow the devout to practice their faith.
Does a Muslim prayer rug or foot-bath count as a religious symbol the way a cross or a Star of David would? Or is it just a rug, and some plumbing that just happens to be in a quiet place, that just happens to be open for student "quiet" time?
Personally, as an Atheist and a freaking fist in the air Church/State separationist, I’m all for it. I think That there should be a place for people to pray if they wish to do so. I’d start to have a problem just as soon as that room become Muslims (or Christians or Jews, or Whatever) only. But a room place where prayer is allowed, and has the facilities needed. Fine by me. Separation doesn’t mean religion doesn’t exist. It just means that it isn’t state policy.
I think it would be a better world, if our kids saw things like their Muslim or Christian classmates engaged in prayer, and then going out and playing a mean game of kick-ball afterward. It would lend a people-are-people sort of atmosphere to things.

Christian America welcomed all religions, with Muslims arriving here by 1619, Jews establishing their first synagogue in 1654, and Buddhists, Hindus, and others also being present from the early days. Significantly, only America extended (and continues to extend) a free-market religious tolerance to others while still preserving the core societal values of our Christian heritage. But the culture has begun to shift. The level playing field is being eroded. As in Europe, Christianity is being knocked down and Islam elevated.
For example, a federal court of appeals ruled that public schools in nine western states can require a three week indoctrination to the Islamic faith in which all junior high students must pretend they are Muslims and offer prayers to Allah (students are further encouraged to take Islamic names, call each other by those names, wear Islamic garb, participate in Jihad games, and read the Koran during those three weeks). Yet that very court also ruled that it was unconstitutional for those same students to voluntarily mention "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Likewise, a federal court on the east coast ruled that public schools may display Islamic holiday symbols but not Christian ones. And the University of Michigan recently spent $25,000 of taxpayer money to install foot-washing facilities to accommodate the religious practices of Muslim students but made no similar expenditure on behalf of students from any other religion.
As a result of such actions, many Muslims are exercising a new boldness in America. In fact, Muslim "honor killings" have now arrived in the United States (most recently in Texas); and just a few weeks ago, direct action was taken to prevent the honor-killing of a 17-year old Muslim girl in Ohio who converted to Christianity and, in fear of her life, fled from her parents to Florida.
This is precisely why I have no religion.

Does the Tea Party candidates deal in reality or *fantasy* when they talk about what they would do-if elected?
Here’s some of the things Tea Party candidates would do if elected:
Talk of stripping government agencies that weren’t there at the birth of our nation, place all US troops at the border to "halt the invasion of illegals and terrorists into our country", taxes slashed to zero, the government neutered of every regulation imaginable, the complete repeal of the Patriot Act, national health care, Wall Street reform, end of all earmarks, push for offshore drilling in states like California, Oregon, and Washington, revoke every environmental law in the book, make Christianity the only religion in the United States, force prayer in school and public buildings, allow businesses to discriminate against minorities based on race or color, allow states to secede from the Union, kill off Social Security and every other socialist program run by the government, remove all job and employee protection laws from the books, slash the minimum-wage down by half, redact every gun ban on the books, outlaw unions, and outlaw gays and lesbian marriage in America–while making same-sex marriage a *crime* in this country at the same time.
The TP folks wouldn’t know reality if they stepped into it.
