Sura AL FATIHA

Sura Al-Fatiha (Arabic: سورة الفاتحة, Sūratu al-Fātihah, “The Opening”) is the first chapter of the Muslim holy book, the Qur’an. Its seven verses are a prayer for God’s guidance and stress the lordship and mercy of God. This chapter has a special role in daily prayers, being recited at the start of each unit of prayer.
When recited during daily prayers, some schools of thought follow Al-Fatihah by the word Amin.
Notes:
The first verse, transliterated as “bismillāhir rahmānir rahīm”, may be familiar to non-Arabic speakers and non-Muslims because of its ubiquity in Arabic and Muslim societies. This verse appears at the start of every chapter in the Qur’an with the exception of the ninth chapter. The verse is normally said before reciting a chapter or part of a chapter during daily prayer, and also before public proclamations and indeed before many personal and everyday activities in many Arabic and Muslim societies as a way to invoke God’s blessing and proclaim one’s motives before an undertaking.
The two words “ar rahmān” and “ar rahīm” are often translated in English as “the beneficent” and “the merciful” or “the generous” and “the merciful.” They are often also translated as superlatives, for example, “the most generous” and “the most merciful”. Grammatically the two words “rahmaan” and “raheem” are different linguistic forms of the triconsonantal root R-H-M, connoting “mercy”.
The form “rahmaan” denotes degree or extent, i.e., “most merciful,” while “raheem” denotes time permanence, i.e., “ever merciful”.

Godless In America: Madalyn Murray O’Hair (1/6)
The amazing life – and disturbing death – of an extraordinary woman who successfully challenged the place of God in American life for 30 notorious years.
Madalyn Murray O’Hair had come to occupy a special place in the American psyche since her 1963 campaign which ended compulsory prayer in US schools after a Supreme Court action on behalf of her son William. O’Hair’s campaign succeeded, but she became the most hated woman in America (her own label), as she fought to take the name of God off the dollar bill – and her son became a born-again Christian.
Then, on a summer’s day in 1995 , she suddenly disappeared, leaving her breakfast dishes on the table – and half a million dollars missing from her organisation’s bank account.

Should Islam be Brought to Schools?
A growing number of groups are calling for public schools to make accommodations for their Islamic communities. Some are requesting a separate area for Muslim children to go when they’re fasting in order to avoid sitting in lunch rooms. Others are requesting footbaths in bathrooms, and separate rooms where Islamic students can go to perform daily prayers. Alyona asks, are Americas really ready for Islam to go mainstream in public schools? Alyona discusses this with Bahir Mustafa from the New York Civic Participation Project. Mustafa discusses how Muslims are not recognized in these schools.

Which party perpetrated this myth?
"Students are not allowed to pray in public school."
WRONG!
State sponsored, mandatory lead prayers by the school facility in a public school payed by tax dollars is illegal and unconstitutional. Private prayers initiated by the students, or by the teachers or facility is COMPLETELY legal! Oh my! You really can pray in school! Who’d a thought!
Why is this claim even made when we all know it’s deceitful?
If you want your child in a school that has mandatory prayers, than go to a private school and quitcher needles bitching. Otherwise in a public school children pray individual on their own terms.
And if someone tries to tell you that you can’t pray individually in a public school that is illegal as well.
9 Iron — punishment had nothing to do with it.
The fact of the matter is, it’s still illegal to have state sponsored prayers on tax payer money.
Separation of Church and state remember? And since public schools are paid for by the STATE, then…..
Actually…for a time it was illegal to pray in school.
That was challenged and overturned, and now kids can pray on their own.
In fact, all of what you say is untrue…used to be very true.
Teachers were not allowed to lead prayers, students weren’t allowed to pray together…maybe you are too young to remember when these law suits were in the news…but you are right…it is legal NOW….but it didn’t used to be…in that way…it wasn’t a myth.
ADD:
By the way…"separation of church and state" isn’t really a part of our government of Constitution. It is a common phrase used to improperly describe the 1st amendment. The 1st Amendment doesn’t prevent religious things from entering our government, within reasonable limits. The 1st amendment only says the government can’t MAKE LAW that establishes a religion, or prevents you from the free exercise of your religion.
BIG difference

Religion in Public School?
Ok…I’m not trying to start a huge debate or anything, but I have a dilemma – I am the legal guardian of my younger sister, and we are atheists. Now before everyone attacks me for being an atheist, I’d just like to say this – atheists are normal people with normal lives. We’re no different than anyone else.
Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll continue with my question!
My sister and I live in Mississippi, in the heart of the Bible Belt. And my sister is a freshman in public high school. The problem is: the PUBLIC school is practically saturated with Christianity. There is a Scripture reading and a prayer before every assembly, and most of the teachers (especially the science teachers) teach according to the Christian Bible. I’m not trying to knock Christianity, but I’m concerned about the amount of religion in my sister’s school. On more than one occasion, she’s been harassed or provoked (by students AND teachers) because of her atheism. I’d like to take my sister out of public school, but homeschooling just isn’t an option. And I’m not sure what to do about the religion problem. I highly doubt I can change the whole school. But I do want to make some sort of change. Am I right in wanting to do this? Should public school be free from religious influences? Or am I just being overly dramatic?
if you feel that’s not the right school for her, file transfer immediately. in my opinion, i wouldn’t mind if all my high school teachers started praising God before and after classes.Im a christian that’s why. but i see this is very uncomfortable for your sister. It is illegal for PUBLIC schools to do that
